South African Police Service SAPS KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has reportedly withdrawn his allegation that former Police Minister Bheki Cele received money from attempted murder-accused tenderpreneur Vusimuzi Cat Matlala.
Mkhwanazi made the claim earlier this month at Parliaments ad hoc committee probing allegations of criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system.
Citing cellphone records, he alleged that Cele sent Matlala a bank account number, which was not in Celes name. Matlala allegedly deposited funds into that account and sent Cele a proof of payment, which the latter allegedly acknowledged.
