South African Police Service SAPS counterintelligence deputy head, Maj-Gen Feroz Khan, is fighting for his life after he was shot in what authorities believe was an attempted assassination in Houghton, Johannesburg, late on Sunday evening 28 June.
Khan was shot on Third Avenue in Houghton at approximately 23:00 when suspects in a white Mercedes-Benz approached him and fired two shots. Two 9mm cartridges were then found on the scene. Emergency services responded to the scene before rushing the critically injured officer to the Intensive Care Unit ICU of an undisclosed hospital.
Feroz Khan in hospital after shootingThe motive for the shooting remains unclear, and police have yet to confirm whether the attack was linked to Khans official duties or another motive. No arrests have been announced.
