South Africa's car manufacturing sector faces the threat of industrial action after the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa Numsa rejected what employers described as a 'full and final offer' in ongoing three-year wage negotiations.
According to Business Day, the deadlock - confirmed by both Numsa and the Automobile Manufacturers Employers Organisation - paves the way for a certificate of non-resolution and potential strike action at seven original equipment manufacturers OEMs. Numsa represents more than 400 000 workers across vehicle assembly plants and component factories.
