Eastern Cape Transport and Community Safety MEC Xolile Nqatha has warned criminals against interfering with police operations following a fatal shootout in Mandela Park in Mthatha .
A 35-year-old male suspect who is believed to be an extortionist was killed during an intelligence-driven police operation targeting illegal firearms in the OR Tambo District.
Police say the suspect opened fire when officers forced entry into a house.
