Softfootball can confirm that Liverpool are pushing to complete the signing of 17-year-old striker Will Wright, despite Arsenal having previously reached a verbal agreement for the Salford City prospect earlier this month.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano also confirmed it via his X handle, stating the club's present stance on the youngster.
According to Fabrizio, he wrote on X :
Meanwhile, Arsenal had been working on a deal since mid-July, as reported earlier by Softfootball , before the recent hijack from Liverpool.
Liverpool's approach has now moved into the advanced stage, with personal terms and final paperwork being prepared on the player's side.
Wright, who has drawn attention from multiple top-flight clubs in recent months, is considered one of the standout attacking prospects in the EFL youth circuit. His sharp movement, balance in tight spaces, and growing maturity in front of the goal have made him a key target in Liverpool's ongoing youth recruitment strategy.
The player had previously looked set to join Arsenal's academy setup after positive talks were held with Mikel Arteta's backroom team. However, Liverpool's late intervention, which includes a clearly defined development pathway and closer integration with the U18s and U21s, appears to have shifted the direction of negotiations.
Should the move be completed, Wright would likely join Liverpool's Kirkby Academy setup initially, though there is belief within the club that his adaptation could be fast-tracked depending on his early progress.
Salford's willingness to accept both offers has allowed the player's camp to weigh the sporting benefits of each project. While Arsenal remains interested, Liverpool's intent to finalise the deal "as soon as possible" may prove decisive.
Softfootball had earlier written about Liverpool's growing emphasis on domestic youth talent, particularly in light of their recent moves for highly rated teenagers across the English academy system. The chase for Wright now looks set to be another test of the club's appeal at development level one they appear confident of winning.
