The National Freedom Party NFP has formally resolved to withdraw from the KwaZulu-Natal government of provincial unity GPU with immediate effect.

At a meeting on 5 January, the partys National Executive Committee NEC also resolved to instruct its deployee Mbali Shinga to resign as Social Development Member of Executive Council MEC.

NFP quits KZN GPU

NFPs Acting Secretary-General Sunset Bheki Xaba conveyed the decisions to Shinga in a letter dated 6 January 2026. She has until 09:00 on Thursday, 8 January to resign.
