The Diary of an Elephant Orphan will be available for streaming on World Elephant Day, August 12. The documentary, which chronicles the survival story of Khanyisa, a three-month-old albino elephant calf caught in a snare, has won 11 international awards since its 2024 release.

Directed by Hermien Roelvert-van Gils , the film follows the work of the Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation and Development Trust, South Africas first and only dedicated elephant orphanage. The trust, founded by Adine Roode in 2019, took in Khanyisa when she was brought to them injured and orphaned. The documentary captures the efforts to save her life and the unprecedented challenge of integrating her into the Jabulani elephant herd.

The film has been recognised by the Wildlife Film Festival in Rotterdam, the Romford Film Festival UK and several US-based festivals including Catalina, Chesapeake and Buffalo.
