The Kenyan government is accelerating plans to develop Ruma National Park, near Lake Victoria, into a flagship tourism facility within Kenyas Western Tourism Circuit.

Kenyas Tourism Cabinet Secretary, Rebecca Miano , said the initiative aims to diversify Kenyas tourism beyond the traditional beach and safari offerings with focus on promoting products through digital mapping and marketing in collaboration with county governments.

Kenya Wildlife Service Director General Erustus Kanga described Ruma as the only park in Kenya that is home to the endangered roan antelope with around 27 individuals living in a predator-proof sanctuary. The park also hosts Rothschilds giraffes as well as black and white rhinos and features improved infrastructure, including 65km of roads and a 1.2km airstrip.
