A juvenile humpback whale has sadly met its end on the shores of Robberg Island near Plettenberg Bay, Cape town Etc reports.
The news broke after the popular local Facebook page 'Plettenberg Bay is Awesome' posted a video showing the stranded marine giant, accompanied by the caption: "'uvenile Humpback Whale today at around 7m beached and her final resting place is the beach on Robberg Island.'
The video, which has quickly gained traction on Facebook, captures the somber scene as the young whale lies motionless on the sand, its vast frame gently swayed by the tide.
While the cause of the beaching has not yet been confirmed by marine authorities, humpback whales are known to frequent the waters along the Garden Route during their seasonal migration, often coming close to shore.
Beaching incidents like these, though heartbreaking, are not uncommon during migration periods. Sometimes, young or sick whales can become disoriented or exhausted, leading them to shallow waters where they are unable to return to sea.
