Jozi My Jozi has relaunched its annual walking tour initiative under the banner JoziMyJoziWalks in partnership with Johannesburg In Your Pocket and the Gauteng Tourism Authority.

The 2025 edition will coincide with World Tourism Day on the weekend of September 27-28 with 12 community-led walking tours across the city.

The initiative focuses on showcasing the stories, heritage, art and businesses of Johannesburgs neighbourhoods through free, two-hour guided walks led by local residents. The routes will include Alexandra, Brixton, Chinatown in Cyrildene, Fordsburg, the inner city including Newtown and Maboneng, Kensington, Lorentzville, Melville, Orange Grove, Sophiatown, Soweto, Troyeville and Yeoville.

Applications to host walks are now open. Selected applicants will receive sponsorship and must attend workshops and briefing sessions during August and September. Each walk is capped to a limited number of participants with a total of 600 visitors across the weekend to ensure quality and manageability.

This unique event celebrates local culture, heritage, art and entrepreneurship, creating authentic experiences for residents and visitors alike, said Dawn Robertson , Creative Economy Catalyst for Jozi My Jozi.
