A group of hikers came to the aid of a 68-year-old German tourist who suffered a serious fall on the popular Lion's Head trail this past Sunday evening, reports Cape town Etc .

The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, experienced a harrowing fall down a stepped path after slipping on a tree root while descending near a cluster of pines, plummeting roughly 10 metres below.

The accident was witnessed by fellow hikers who wasted no time in mobilising their efforts to assist the injured visitor. Understanding the severity of the mans condition, unable to walk and in considerable pain, the compassionate group quickly dialled the emergency number for assistance while beginning to apply first aid from their supplies.

With a calm demeanour, they reassured the injured man, staying by his side until professional rescue teams could take over.

Wilderness Search and Rescue WSAR Western Cape mounted a robust response, working alongside the Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS paramedics and the SANParks - Table Mountain National Park SEAM team members.
