This controversial move, initiated by Washington, involved a special flight carrying individuals from various nationalities, all of whom have been convicted of serious offences in the US.
The Department of International Relations and Co-operation DIRCO has confirmed that these deportees are already on the ground in Eswatini, with indications that more may follow.
Chrispin Phiri, a spokesperson for DIRCO, articulated the South African governments unease, particularly in the context of national security and immigration policies.
Whilst respecting the sovereign decision of the Government of Eswatini, we are deeply concerned about the profile of these individuals and the potential adverse impact on South Africa's national security, Phiri stated.
