Strand Beach will host a free ocean safety course next month following four drowning fatalities last summer, with lifeguards aiming to prevent further incidents through public education, Cape town Etc reports.
The Strand Lifesaving Club is offering the course on October 12 from 11:30am to 12:30pm at their clubhouse. The training is designed to be accessible and practical, focusing on skills such as recognising dangerous rip currents and understanding flag systems.
The club has highlighted that these lessons are vital for both children and adults, particularly in a region where beach outings are common but ocean risks are often underestimated.
