South Africa is preparing for the triumphant return of Formula One, with the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Midrand officially cleared to host the world-renowned race from 2027 to 2029 , pending renewal.

Cabinet approval on 5 September 2025, announced by Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, confirmed the nation's bid, backed by strong private sector investment, marking the first F1 race on African soil since 1993.

Kyalami, a track with a rich but dramatic legacy, hosted 20 South African Grands Prix between 1967 and 1993. Its 4.529km layout, notorious for the tragic 1977 accident that claimed the lives of driver Tom Pryce and marshal Frederick Jansen van Vuuren, is now undergoing upgrades to meet FIA Grade 1 standards, as per Central News .
