The Free State Department of Agriculture has urged farmers, livestock owners, traders and members of the public to exercise heightened vigilance and strict compliance with biosecurity measures during the Easter period.

Spokesperson Moliehi Moeng says Easter is traditionally associated with increased movement of livestock and higher demand for the slaughtering of animals and this poses a risk for the spread of Foot and Mouth Disease.

Moeng says it is critical that all stakeholders act responsibly.
