The death toll from the devastating scholar transport crash in Vanderbijlpark has risen to 13, after two more children succumbed to their injuries in hospital on Monday, 19 January, reports Cape town Etc .
The collision, which involved a private scholar transport minibus and a truck on the R553 near the ArcelorMittal steel plant, initially claimed the lives of 11 pupils at the scene. The Gauteng Department of Education later confirmed that two additional learners died while receiving medical treatment.
Providing an update from Sebokeng Hospital, Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko said three children remain under medical care, with one currently in theatre, while two other injured passengers - the driver and assistant driver - were transported to Kopanong Hospital, as reported by Briefly News .
