The electricity utility has threatened fines and potential disconnections for households that have not registered their behind-the-meter solar systems. However, experts argue that Eskom lacks the legal authority to compel residential users to register, according to the Daily Investor .
Energy specialist Chris Yelland, managing director at EE Business Intelligence, emphasised that while registering solar systems is important for monitoring grid stability, it should not be enforced by Eskom.
