Power utility Eskom has warmed communities in the North West to be cautious of individuals posing as Eskom officials, requesting payment for installation of new smart prepaid meter boxes .
The new smart prepaid split meter roll-out started last year, to replace the older meter, for better grid reliability and enable remote monitoring.
Eskom North West spokesperson Ezekiel Baruti says installation is provided at no cost and communities will be informed through official communication channels, before any work takes place.
