Beachgoers across Cape Town are being urged to stay cautious after highly toxic puffer fish were discovered along parts of the coastline, Cape town Etc reports.

The City of Cape Town confirmed sightings at Muizenberg Beach and Camps Bay Beach on 22 April, following recent strong swell conditions that are believed to have washed the fish ashore.

While they may appear harmless, puffer fish carry a serious risk. They contain tetrodotoxin, a potent neurotoxin that can be deadly if ingested. Even minimal exposure can pose significant danger to both people and animals.
