The board of SA Tourism has been dissolved with immediate effect. Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille informed the board about her decision on Tuesday.
A statement issued by the Minister today says the board failed to address the legality of the procedure it followed when it convened a special board meeting early this month, when it took an unlawful decision of putting on precautionary suspension CEO Nombulelo Guliwe.
In the statement, De Lille says the legal advice she received indicates that, that special board meeting was convened unlawfully and that only a board chairperson is empowered to convene a special board meeting. And, at the time of that special meeting, Tourism SA had no board chairperson following the resignation of Professor Gregory Davids, which means it acted unlawfully.
