dbe slams september break hoax

South Africa's Department of Basic Education DBE has shot down yet another round of viral fake news, this time claiming that pupils will enjoy an 'extended September holiday' in 2025.

The false reports, circulating on questionable websites and gaining traction on social media, alleged that the school calendar was being adjusted to 'better balance teaching days and public holidays'. But according to the DBE, the story is pure fiction.

'There are no changes to the 2025 schooling calendar. Any announcement not made on the official social media accounts of the department should be viewed as fake news,' the DBE confirmed.
