The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, has announced a significant policy shift aimed at enhancing the safety of vulnerable populations in South Africa, Cape town Etc reports.

During her recent oral responses in the National Assembly, Kubayi directed her department to pursue legislative amendments that would make the National Register for Sex Offenders NRSO accessible to the public.

This law criminalises the publication of the register, except in circumstances related to the implementation of the Act or as required by a competent court. However, the Minister stated that the Office of the Chief State Law Advisor OCSLA has confirmed that legislative changes are necessary to authorise such access.
