The Democratic Alliance DA says the new National Director of Public Prosecutions NDPP Adv Andy Mothibis age is a major stumbling block to efforts to strengthen the National Prosecuting Authority.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has picked Mothibi for the role effective 1 February 2026. Current NDPP, Adv Shamila Batohi , reaches mandatory retirement age of 65 at the end of January.
DA on Andy Mothibis appointmentIn a statement on Wednesday 7 January, DA MP Adv Glynnis Breytenbach cautiously welcomed the appointment, citing Mothibis experience as Special Investigating Unit SIU head as well as a former magistrate and prosecutor.
