The South African Civil Aviation Commission Sacca has called on African leaders to create new opportunities for the next generation in the aviation sector.

The commission made this call at the 3rd Next Generation of Aviation Professionals Global Summit being held at the Durban ICC.

The three-day event, which commenced today, is aimed at addressing aviations urgent need for millions of new skilled professionals to work in the aviation sector globally.

The commissions Secretary-General Adefunke Adeyemi further urged Africa to dismantle the systemic barriers that limit the participation of women and young people in the aviation sector.

"The world of global aviation need our African youth. Over the next 20 years, the aviation globally will triple in its size. Even in Africa, aviation will almost triple in its size. Africa has the youngest population of this entire world with the average age of 19 with the population of 1,5 billion people. 7020 million of those are young under the age of 30. In the next 20 years, we will need over 70,000 aviation professionals in Africa just from an operation perspective," says Adeyemi.
