Hundreds of assailants killed 34 Nigerien soldiers in an attack near Mali on Thursday, the defense ministry said. The "cowardly and barbaric" assault targeted Banibangou with fighters in vehicles and motorbikes, it added. Fourteen soldiers were wounded.
