The chairperson of Walter Sisulu University Council, Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi has expressed shock and dismay following a fatal shooting of a senior official at the Walter Sisulu University in the Eastern Cape.

The official was shot dead inside a stationary vehicle outside the institutions Nelson Mandela Drive Campus in Mthatha last night.

It is reported that that Walter Sisulu Senior official was ambushed on the road leading to his eNkulekweni residence.

Police are investigating a case of murder and the motive of the killing is unknown at this stage.

Ngcukayitobi says: The council is deeply shocked and disturbed at what appears to be a brazen act of assassination. We send deep condolences to his family at this stage to the family and his extended family. We have escalated the incident to the law enforcement authorities. We are hopeful that they will work swiftly to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice without delay.
