three guptaowned homes set to be auctioned

Three lavish Johannesburg properties tied to the controversial Gupta family are officially up for grabs, marking what auctioneers are calling the 'beginning of the end' of a drawn-out legal and financial debacle dating back to 2018.

The homes, located on Saxonwold Drive, once a symbol of power and excess, are being auctioned off under a court order following years of litigation and business rescue efforts involving Confident Concept, a Gupta-owned company now under administration. The Supreme Court of Appeal's green light has finally paved the way for the sales to proceed, as reported by The Sowetan Live .

Park Village Auctions, which is handling the sale, confirmed that each property will go under the hammer on Thursday, 24 July at 11am, with online bidding available. Public viewings are scheduled throughout July on the 6th, 13th, 19th, and 20th from 10am to 4pm.

The jewel of the auction is 5 Saxonwold Drive, a sprawling 4 200sqm estate boasting eight bedrooms, indoor pool, entertainment areas, and extensive garaging across three floors. A mansion of this calibre is expected to draw attention from high-net-worth individuals looking to own a slice of Johannesburg's elite northern suburbs.

Just next door, 7 Saxonwold Drive is arguably even more extravagant. Featuring 17 en-suite bedrooms, multiple lounges, a cinema, a beauty salon, and a skylit triple-volume entrance, this multi-storey compound has clear development potential. Though currently zoned Residential 1, the property could be reimagined into several upscale units with the right permissions.
