The African National Congress in the Western Cape has called upon the provincial government to grant Cape Town police Major-General Andre Lincoln an official Provincial Funeral.

He died at home in the early hours of this morning.

Lincoln was in his mid 60s.

Provincial spokesperson Khalid Sayed says Lincoln, a former uMkhonto intelligence officer, bravely fought apartheid and later led the fight against organized crime and corruption.

Khalid adds that Lincoln is more deserving of this recognition, not only for his role in the liberation struggle and law enforcement but also his moral leadership and sacrifices in defence of our democracy.
