The City of Cape Town is on high alert following alarming revelations regarding the influx of illegal firearms into the region, Cape town Etc reports.
Alderman JP Smith, the Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, disclosed that law enforcement agencies have confiscated nine firearms in the last three months that bear serial numbers absent from the South African Police Service SAPS Central Firearms Control Registry.
This has sparked fresh concerns about gun smuggling across the Western Capes borders.
