The Cape Winelands District Municipality Fire Services says air support has been forced to stand down due to strong wind conditions, hampering firefighting efforts as a blaze continues to burn in Franschhoek.
Municipal spokesperson Jo Anne Otto says very strong winds are driving the fire line, while steep terrain and dense vegetation are making operations extremely challenging.
She says the municipality has since requested the deployment of a black hawk helicopter which is better equipped to operate in strong wind conditions.
