The Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI has found itself in a challenging situation following the recent passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025 in the Indian Parliament. The bill introduces major reforms, including a ban on real-money online games, while formally recognising esports as a legitimate sport.
This development has created a dilemma for the BCCI, as its current team sponsor Dream11 falls under the real-money online gaming category. BCCI had signed a ?358 crore deal with Dream11 to serve as Team India's official shirt sponsor from July 2023 to March 2026.
Under this agreement, the Dream11 logo features prominently on the jerseys of both men's and women's national teams, beginning with the ICC World Test Championship 2023 series against the West Indies. However, with the new restrictions in place, BCCI may now have to reconsider its sponsorship strategy.
