For nearly 200 households in Lotus Park, Gugulethu, access to electricity is no longer just a hope for the future. The City of Cape Town has completed a R2.5 million electrification project that has officially connected 193 homes to the power grid while strengthening the areas electricity network.
The project goes beyond simply installing household connections. City teams upgraded the local mini-substation, laid new low-voltage cables, installed electricity poles and fitted energy-efficient LED streetlights to improve visibility and safety throughout the settlement.
Each newly connected household has received a prepaid electricity meter and a standard electricity connection, allowing residents to become registered City electricity customers.
