Hundreds of women from various faith backgrounds united for a prayer walk across Cape Town on Wednesday, 27 August, calling on officials to confront crime and gender-based violence with renewed urgency.

The Women's Prayer Walk saw participants hand over a list of demands to the office of Premier Alan Winde and the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities. Organisers framed the event as a starting point for collaboration between civil society and government, emphasising a desire to help develop and implement solutions rather than merely protest.

The premier's office acknowledged the demonstration, stating that Winde shares the frustrations and anger of affected communities and has requested an urgent meeting with the acting minister of police.
