A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to four life terms in the Fraserburg Regional Court for repeatedly raping his stepdaughter, who was 10 years old when the abuse began.

The Northern Cape man was convicted for crimes committed between 2017 and 2019. The court heard that he threatened to separate the child from her mother if she revealed the abuse. The victim became pregnant at age 13 as a result of the rape and abuse.

Provincial police spokesperson Ivan Magerman says the man served as a preacher in his church.
