In a landmark effort to bring software engineering education to underserved communities, WeThinkCode_ has launched a new partnership with South Cape TVET College. The initiative, supported by the DG Murray Trust and the Caterpillar Foundation, will provide a rigorous training program for a cohort of 30 students at the Hessequa Campus in Riversdale. This collaboration is a key part of WeThinkCode_s strategy to replicate its successful training model beyond major urban centers.
WeThinkCode_ has long been committed to making software engineering education accessible to all, and partnering with South Cape TVET College allows us to refine how we support students in rural settings. This is more than just a standalone programme it is a scalable blueprint for reaching youth in regions where tech education opportunities are scarce.
- Ruvimbo Gwatirisa, Director of Public Partnerships, WeThinkCode_
The 18-month curriculum mirrors the high standards of WeThinkCode_s other programs, with students earning an NQF Level 6 Occupational Certificate in Software Engineering. The training covers foundational software development and advanced specializations in areas like mobile development, cloud computing, and AI. To address the unique challenges of rural students, the partnership ensures on-campus accommodation, making the program more accessible to those from remote and disadvantaged backgrounds.
