western cape proposes actions to improve port of cape town efficiency

In response to the alarming ranking of the Port of Cape Town, which placed last out of 400 global container ports in the recently released World Bank's Container Port Performance Index CPPI 2025, the Western Cape has announced a series of targeted actions aimed at revitalising the ports operational efficiency.

With vessels in the port impacting vital sectors like agriculture and perishables, the urgency for reform cannot be overstated.

The Western Cape Minister of Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism, Dr Ivan Meyer has highlighted the critical role of ports as enablers of economic growth, trade, and job creation during his address.
