Western Cape hospitals under strain as emergency admissions top 74300 over the festive season, the provincial health department said, reports Cape town Etc .
According to EWN , data collected from 2 December 2025 to 2 January 2026 show more than 74300 admissions across Western Cape emergency centres. These included about 18,600 trauma cases and 52200 medical admissions.
The department said New Year's Day was especially busy, with 3989 admissions recorded that day. Staff worked long hours to care for injured and very sick patients.
