The Witwatersrand African Taxi AssociationWATA is calling on government to intervene and address taxi wars with urgency. This follows the fatal shooting of three men believed to be taxi marshals in Mofolo Central, Soweto this morning.

Johannesburg Metro Police and emergency services are currently at the scene of the shooting. Motorists have been encouraged to use alternative routes. The motive for the killing is still unknown and no one has been arrested yet.

WATA spokesperson Hamilton Miya says, For the past ten years weve been living like this. We try by all means to invlove the government. We even wrote an email to the President and Ministers to intervene but moving forward well put everything to the police to do their job. Police will investigate and they will update us.
