Producer and screenwriter Phathutshedzo Makwarela says he knew he struck gold when he cast the late Don Mlangeni-Nawa on the television series, The River.

He was speaking at the memorial service of the veteran actor at the Soweto Theatre on Thursday.

Makwarela describes Mlangeni-Nawa as a walking library who, at all times, was ready to impart knowledge to young actors.

He says working with him was the highest honour of his career and will miss his amazing sense of humour.

Bra Don has shaped a generation of young producers like us he was so gracious and kind to everyone on set who was the light on set I think in conclusion I really want to thank his family the wife and kids that our industry its tough its long hours, weeks away from family and he was able to give all the greatness within him because you allowed him to be free and present in set for all the long hours, Makwarela recounts.
