The University of the Western Cape UWC has announced a major expansion of its student accommodation ahead of the 2026 academic year.
The institution says it has added more than 5 000 new bed spaces, bringing total residence capacity to just over 16 000 beds.
The move comes as South Africa continues to face a national student housing shortage, with demand for accommodation at public universities far exceeding supply.
