uncertainty over housing for zimbabweans awaiting repatriation

Concern is growing about where Zimbabwean nationals, who are being processed for repatriation in Cape Town, will be accommodated until buses become available to transport them to the Beit Bridge border post. This comes after the City of Cape Town, together with the Department of Home Affairs and the Zimbabwean Consulate, relocated large numbers of people to Epping for processing.

The number of Zimbabwean nationals who had flocked to the consulate in Distict Six has over the past week grown to thousands. Many of them spent multiple days here waiting to be assisted. On Sunday morning, as heavy rainfall lashed Cape Town, the relocation process got underway.

Some of the migrants say while they do not have any jobs to go home to in Zimbabwe, the current climate here leaves them with no choice.
