Tuks showcased resilience after a tough loss, dominating CUT 63-26 in Bloemfontein. This victory came just a week after their defeat to Ikeys. The fourth round of the Varsity Cup Tournament saw high-scoring matches across the board. North-West Eagles beat Shimlas 59-14, and UCT triumphed over Wits 71-17.
Maties remain unbeaten, leading the table with 20 points, followed by Tuks with 17, Ikeys with 15, Shimlas with 12, and North-West Eagles with 11. The upcoming three weeks will be crucial for the teams, with Tuks facing a tough path to the playoffs. Their next match is at home against North-West Eagles, followed by an away game against Maties and a home fixture against Shimlas. Tuks must win at least one of these to secure their playoff spot.
North-West Eagles are almost certain to win two of their remaining three matches, while Ikeys, Maties, and Shimlas are also expected to win at least once.
Tuks head coach Dewey Swartbooi reminded everyone that Varsity rugby is about the bigger picture, not just individual victories.
' As things stand, Tuks have nothing to celebrate. We still have a lot of hard work to do before anyone can think about smiling. For now, it is about focusing on one game at a time, aiming to play better each time we take to the field,' he said.
