City of Tshwane says it will conduct safety audits around Watloo, Denneboom and other well-known hotspots, following the gruesome killings of women whose bodies were discovered burnt near train stations, between June and August this year.
In a statement released by the municipality, officials say they will work with the energy and electricity business unit to improve public lighting and surveillance in vulnerable areas.
In a separate case, a man accused of killing a woman after meeting her on Facebook, abandoned his bail application after appearing at the Pretoria magistrates court on Wednesday.
According to the City's community and social development services department, Mamelodi and surrounding areas have emerged as hotspots for violent crimes, particularly those targeting women and children .
These killings are reportedly not isolated incidents but are indicative of the broader national crisis of gender-based violence and femicide GBVF, which continues to plague communities with devastating impact.
