The Department of Tourism has invited registered tourist guides across South Africa to apply for the 2025/26 Foreign Language Training Programme. The initiative aims to equip guides with Mandarin language skills to better serve the Chinese market.
On completion and based on exam outcomes, candidates may be considered for the second phase of the programme, which includes cultural immersion in China.
Criteria for admission and enrolment include South African citizenship, valid tourist guide registration and at least one to two years of experience, preferably with Chinese or foreign tourists. Preference will be given to women, youth and individuals from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. Applicants must demonstrate effective communication skills, computer literacy and submit a one-page motivation with a CV.
