bwindi property reopens after upgrade

Marasa Africa has reopened Silverback Lodge in Ugandas Bwindi Impenetrable Forest following a complete redesign by HesseKleinloog Studio, known for projects such as Singita Kataza House and Kwitonda Lodge. The property includes elevated, glass-lined guest rooms, a restaurant and a dining deck overlooking the forest.

The refurbishment aimed to combine contemporary design with Ugandan heritage using materials such as polished concrete, eucalyptus timber beams, woven crafts and glass. The property now features minimalist architecture and interiors designed to blend with its forest setting.

Silverback Lodge is part of the Madhvani Groups Marasa Africa portfolio. More than 90 of the construction workforce was drawn from surrounding communities with artisans trained and local suppliers contracted for woodwork, ceramics and furniture. Collaborations were established with organisations such as Conservation Through Public Health, the refugee Milaya project, Snare to Wares and Ride 4 a Woman.
