Three most wanted criminals from a notorious gang have been killed in a shootout with police at a house in Amaoti in Inanda township north of Durban.
Police say the trio are part of a gang where four members were arrested a month ago in Cato Ridge.
They were wanted for a number of violent crimes including murder.
The shooting follows the death of five suspected murderers in a shootout with police at the weekend in Hammersdale.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says, We continued with the investigation and we found out that there were still other guys who were outstanding. Our intelligence together with the help of community members led us to this house. As police approached, the suspects shot at police and police retaliated with fire.
