After 22 days of tireless searching and unyielding hope, family and friends of 18-year-old Rikus Kylander have confirmed he will not be returning home.
As reported by IOL , Rikus disappeared while snorkelling off the coast of Ponta do Ouro, Mozambique during a matric trip on 18 December. What began as a celebratory getaway with about a dozen classmates soon turned into a desperate search when he failed to resurface from the sea around 1 pm that day.
His family from Krugersdorp, Gauteng immediately travelled to Mozambique and joined local volunteers in the painstaking search. For more than three weeks, they combed the coastal waters and terrain, driven by hope and community support.
