Tensions remain high in Uganda, days after a closely contested presidential election. At least 30 people have been killed, several opposition figures are in hiding, arrests have been reported, and international concern is growing over potential crackdowns on human rights and political freedoms.
Ugandas political climate remains uncertain following the January 15 presidential election, which declared long-serving leader Yoweri Museveni the winner with more than 70 percent of the vote.
The result has been rejected by his main challenger, pop-star turned politician Bobi Wine, who says the vote did not reflect the will of the people. Across Kampala and other major cities, security has been visibly increased.
