A large-scale search operation is underway at Bloubergstrand Beach in Tableview after a 16-year-old local male was swept out to sea by strong rip currents on Friday afternoon and remains missing.

According to the NSRI and, NSRI Melkbosstrand station commander Rowan Marais, the incident occurred at approximately 4:01 PM on 29 August when two young males appearing to be in distress in the surf zone. While one teenager managed to reach shore unharmed, the other was carried out to sea before disappearing from view.

The NSRI Melkbosstrand duty crew was activated following emergency calls reporting a possible drowning in progress. The City of Cape Town water rescue network was immediately activated, triggering a comprehensive response from multiple emergency services.
