Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs Ricardo Mackenzie says talks are ongoing between his department, the Cape Town Minsterel Carnival Association CTMCA and the City of Cape Town to preserve and protect the traditional parade route.

This after hundreds of minstrels affiliated to the association held a protest parade through the streets of Cape Town. The association has called on national government to declare the traditional parade route a national heritage. Mackenzie accepted the memorandum of demands.

Its all our responsibility to work together in protecting our collective cultural heritage as the city, province and the country. We owe it to the country. This is not just Cape Towns heritage, its South Africas heritage. So, we are looking forward to Monday seeing tens of thousands of people lining up our beautiful city going to watch the Klopse.
